Here is an Eastern coyote that a friend and I took from Maine in 2007. These coyotes are much larger than most coyotes in the US and it weighed 80 lbs. State officials in Maine have performed DNA testing and determined that these are hybrids between the red wolf found in Canada and coyotes. They have the cunning to survive around developed areas and the ability to hunt in packs and bring down large prey. This particular coyote was hunting at night with two other coyotes and had killed several of my friends sheep.over a period of about two weeks. Very beautiful specimen. Not like the coyotes in California.
