Second Pheasant+Story

This is my second pheasant that I harvested last year, taken with my grandfather's Ithaca featherlight 16 gauge. Here's the story: After a couple hours which included passing a roosted cock and physically chases birds that refused to fly, I managed to take this hen. I was walking up a hill, and maybe 50 yards to my left were 4 or 5 guys who were having issues controlling their dogs. From the tone of one of his shouts, he didn't sound like he had shot something yet. Mind you I'm a kid by myself without a dog. A sudden burst of flushed prey 5 yards in front of me; flurry of feathers takes flight, and in one fluid motion I pump in a round and let it off without even taking a chance to take aim out of instincts. Down she goes, followed by so much cussing from one of the guys from that group it was easily heard, among the lines of " Did that --------- kid just bag one?" This is one of my top hunting memories, though I would share.
