Shot this 6:17am, 8-31-12, found it had a shorter deformed back leg, no foot, just a stub with a pad on the end, like on the bottom of a regular paw, it was a young pup around 20-30 lbs.

Could it have been a healed over wound, as from a trap? I've seen a couple of dogs caught in a fence, as they tried to jump it and hung a back leg. Could this have been the case and he simply chewed it off to free himself? Was the bottom truly "pad" material? Or simply a healed over wound callused over like the knees of a goat with sore hooves/feet? Sorry, I've got more questions than answers.Lawrence Bouchat
It was a pad just like on a regular foot, I though of an injury too, but it def is a pad, has the same formation as a main pad on the bottom of any K-9 foot. Will Alexander
probably a trapHeath Boeddeker
Looks just like a deformed leg/foot to me . If he would have chewed his foot off cause of a trap it would have just healed over with skin and fur on it in my opinion .Cecil Hurt
i seen them this way it from a trap if it low down where the can still walk on it causes it to pretty much turn in to a reg foot pad after it heals and wears the fur back offJohnny Renfro
see em like this all the time, my dad shot one last year missing a complete leg no stub or nothingLawrence Bouchat
This pup was only around 4 months old, don't think a pad would have grown that fast after healing from an injury. It would have be still mending.Ron Moore
iv shot young pups that have chewed there foot of to get away and well to tell ya the truth it doesnt take long for it to heal backgreg myrick
caught in a trap probably and chewed its foot offLawrence Bouchat
Ron Did they have a pad replace the end of the injury like this? Like Heath said it would have healed over with skin and hair, wouldn't think it would grow a pad, I have seen apputies and they didn't have a pad like this one, really it was just like as if it was a regular foot, just no toes/claws, and a single pad with the same build as a regular pad, it even had the texture and 'give' of a pad that you could stroke and rough like a dogs pad.BTW we have a lot of coyotes here and most likely a lot of inbreading too.
