March 20, 2006 Mac Weakly hooks and manages to land this freak at Dixon Lake in California. Why isn't it a world record? After the giant took a couple of stabs at his white jig, he ended up foul hooking the fish in the side. The IGFA states that a fish could not be INTENTIONALLY foul hooked. Had Mac chosen to challenge it, we would have a new world record.

Anyone who has ever spent time bass fishing knows this is an incredible fish. I'm from GA so I'm proud that we still have the record but this fish IS the world record largemouth. Another one like this will come out of California or Central America sooner or later.

I'm not sure about California but here in Ontario any fish that is foul hooked, intentionally or not, HAS to be released immediately. In order for it to be a record, the fish would have to be kept, killing it, and weighed on certified scales. Still a nice fish though.
