Well opening day here isn't until the very last Saturday in September, but I cant even begin to tell you how pumped I am. I am in the process of moving a few hundred miles west, to one of the best deer hunting areas in Pennsylvania as far as antler size is concerned. I'll be spending the next two months acquiring private properties to bowhunt, scouting, hanging stands last minute, and then getting in the woods on the opener. I'll probably make an earlier trip to Ohio for their opening weekend as well, since I'll only be about 45 mins from the state line. I've been seeing some pretty great bucks around, and I can't wait to lay the smackdown on one!Nick McPherson
I'm with ya. I have an old buck that showed up on the property and he was running alone and running others off from the plots so I feel the need to get rid of him. He's not the biggest but hes good for a 6 pt. That will be mine for the year since this will be my girlfriends time to get her first deer ever, so thats my focus. That and a freezer fullNick McPherson
Im not far from Ohio. Im just in central KyZack Doyle
We typically hunt Southeast Ohio, near Athens and pretty close to the KY line. I've been wanting to do some hunting in KY as well since its so close. That area along the Ohio river there produces some giants, just like the area we hunt.Nick McPherson
Ive got a "secret spot" about 30 miles into Tn. My aunt has some land that she was going to build a house on and decided to leave it alone and its in the middle of an old lumber yard and the only way in is through our yard. Probably the biggest deer I HAVE EVER SEEN. Just couldnt get a clean line.Nick McPherson
Do you prefer fixed or mechanical blades when you hunt?Patrick Snell
I can't wait for it to open up here in Texas!Zack Doyle
You know, this is an awesome question, and it's one that I'm going to start a conversation about when we have more interaction here. I have no preference. I've killed dozens upon dozens of deer with both types of broadheads, and I haven't found a huge advantage of one over the other. They both have pro's and cons. Fixed blade broadheads have come a long way in terms of flight characteristics. If I had to give an advantage to one over the other, it would be to fixed blades. Anything mechanical can fail, and at some point will. I actually typically carry both kinds in my quiver, and shoot whatever I feel like that particular hunt. For huge bodied, heavy boned midwest bucks, I typically shoot fixed heads. If I'm headed out specifically to kill a doe, I'll shoot a big mechanical. I shoot fixed blades and mechanicals that fly identical to field points, so it makes no difference between which I shoot. I like mechanicals with large cutting diameters, like the 1 3/4" Grim Reaper Razortip and the 2" Rocket Meatseeker 3 blade. My favorite fixed heads include Slick Trick Magnums, Magnus Stinger 4 blade, NAP Hellrazor, and the new QAD Exodus. All fly extremely well, and are super solid. I will be shooting the Meatseeker and Exodus this season.Audra Goss
Bow season opens in Alabama on October 15, but we won't have rifle season until the end of November, either the 19th or the 26th. I haven't checked the calendar yet. I'm not a bow hunter, so I'm not too concerned with opening day just yet. I usually spend bow season doing serious scouting and checking my rifles. I'm getting impatient! I know it's only August, but I want to get out on the property and start clearing roads and setting up the food plots and moving some stands around. I want to get it done so we can get the cameras out and start scouting already. I know we have a young herd of about 14 trying to establish in the very back, so I'm not going to touch them; I might not even go back there and risk upsetting them. I also know we have about 10 mature bucks ready to go all over the place. I let three deer walk last season, so I'm itching for some deer blood.Mike Ollett
Well we have a bit more of a wait here season doesn't open till October here in Ontario.Misty King
I'm literally having major anxiety over opening day. I am in northern Louisiana so our opening day is Oct for bow hunting. Sept 1 is opening day for dove season here and I am super excited.Andrew Porter
I'm praying almost every day that I can find a place to hunt this year, been two years since I got to deer hunt and I die a little inside every time I miss deer season.Nick McPherson
