bow hunting

i started shooting archery about a yr ago i need to know what a good maximum distance is. right now i only shot 40-45 yards is this a good distance to hunt or should i stretch it out a lil more.

It's dependent on how comfortable you are. I can tell you that most people where I'm from don't even shoot that far.
The best way to establish your personal range, is setting up a target the size of the animals vitals (example: for a deer, a paper plate is a good size) and find a distance where you can consistently put an arrow in that target every time. If you can't hit it every time, move closer. This way you know you can make a clean shot. If you can hit it every time at 50, 55, or 60 yards, power to you!
If you're worried about the bow's energy, you won't see much of a difference out to your maximum range.
