Slugs do hit hard but I have heard stories where an attacking animal had been shot multiple times with a slug and it didn't stop it . come to find out the soft slugs were mushrooming against bone under the skin and not penetrating to vital areas. so I would say be sure it's a broadside through the ribs shot or ya could have a dangerous wounded bear running around.
I carried a rem 12 gauge with slugs in northern Manitoba while guiding for bears, as for a charging bear it will do the job its all shot placement( forehead.. no... shoulders stops them every time!). when hunting it is no different than most kill shots.. side shot into vitals does the job very well. and always be ready for a follow up just in case, but all in all with a good shot it won't go far. good luck!!
wouldn't be my weapon of choice, but yeah it could. I would have to go with a .30 aux 6 or .308. I think where large, wild and dangerous animals are concerned, 'could' is not a word I'd like to use. I think it would be wise for anybody to leave little room for error and be better safe than potentially dead
