Protein and mineral supplements will help you grow larger deer. However, you're not seeing the effects of a nutritional deficiency. What you're seeing is poor age structure in your total deer herd. You're not seeing mature deer. You're only seeing 1-2 year old bucks, and nothing mature. You live in Pennsylvania like I do, and this is the case in many areas of the state. If you want to see bigger bucks, don't shoot any small ones, period. You have to let them grow. Learn to age deer on the hoof, and restrict yourself to only shooting deer that are 3 years of age and older. Couple that with a nutritional plan and you'll see bigger deer. You may also want to try and start a Trophy Management club with your neighbors. Make a pact that no one shoots any deer smaller than 7 or 8 points. It wont happen overnight, but you'll start to see mature deer.
listen to Zack and in 3 to 5 years you will see a difference in thier horn size/body size...shoot deer that you know are mature and thier horns won't grow anymore or produce trophy offspring, height, thickness and spread is what your looking for and if you see any nontypicals with backtines on them and they are small let them go they are the beginning of other nontypical offspring
Too right that... What I do if I cant get me big buck I'll shoot a fawn before the end of season so I can still get some nice tasty meat... Kill either the big ones or shoot the weak ones and now Ive 5 mature bucks on the cam!!! Its gonna be a good season that one.
