I want to try bow hunting this year, where should I start?
I'm a fairly new hunter, and I got my card so I can get my bow hunting license, and I really want to try it this year. I don't know where to start, well with getting a bow, and the arrows. I could shoot fairly well at the Conservation Camp. And I think I really want to give hunting with a bow a try. So if you could help, I would really appreciate it.

Your best bet is to buy one of the many bows on the market aimed towards youth. Mission Archery leads the way in youth bows. They make two models that have an extremely wide range of adjustments for both draw length and weight. As you get stronger with practice, you will be able to adjust the draw weight accordingly. The two models are both under $400, and the performance is extremely good as well. I think I posted one of the two on my "Must Have Archery Gear" board. Check out Missions website, and take a look at the Menace and the Riot. You can't go wrong with these bows, and they'll adjust to last you forever. You can probably even find one used somewhere online and save yourself some money. Spend alot of time practicing before you hit the field, and only shoot to your comfortable range. You may also want to check out the form segments of my blog, and practice the fundamentals I explain there. They will help you create proper muscle memory, and mold you into a consistent shooter. Agreed. I would suggest going to a bow shop and shooting as many bows as possible. Once you find "the one" you'll know. You can find good used bows there as well that could save you a couple of bucks. Also ask about any shooting clubs around. It's always a good idea to shoot with people better then you it only speeds up the learning curve.Misty King
I started out shooting a Mission Craze. Loved this bow. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to shoot a bow due to health issues. I now have a Carbon Express x Force 400 crossbow.
