clean the outside of the skull so theres no flesh on the outside of the skull cover the antlers with something dig a hole and put a bucket over it then bury dig it back up in like 4 months.
the last one I had done was a taxidermist. They had these beetles that cleaned that thing better then any bleach etc. It cost me like 65 to have it done. Best European mount I have ever had done. I had one guy say it was fake even ,
Go to a beauty supply store and get 40 volume it is the highest level of peroxide you can get with out a License if you also add the powdered bleach to it and let it soak for 24 be it.will be gleaming white.
I haven't tried it yet but my good friend from Wisconsin said that he would Bury his heads up to the base of the antlers in a bucket of cow manure and in a month or so it would be clean as a whistle inside and out.... as to Ryan, I heard of those beetles and heard that is a good way to go, wonder what kind of beetles they are?
taxidermists use flesh eating beatles. but the cheap way to go is the bury in the backyard deal. I wrap the antlers with foil above the ground so nothing gnaws at em. then cover with bucket and brick and give it time. soil does stain the bone a bit yellow but high power peroxide as above or a little spray paint makes it look great. store bought oak plaque and you are done.
Good suggestions but one problem with burying it or covering with manure is serious discoloration and often time the bones fall apart and it is not a fun puzzle to put back together. The best thing to do is clean it as best you can, removing all the hide, flesh etc. Afterward, boil it in a big stock pot filled with salt and borax. Don't worry about using too much, It comes out nice, and white as can be. It takes a little work but its worth it.
