Can anyone tell me about this Mauser?

I have this Mauser 98 sporter in 30-06 that I'm putting together, it's been customized w/ engraving and shaving done here and there that has covered or taken off almost all identifying marks except on the barrel that says "mauser 30 cal. US government 1906 Germany" and an engraved picture on the under side of the action of a knight wielding a sword on a horse that appears to be riding into battle. any ideas on the origin of this rifle?

Don't know much about that particular model, but I am especially fond of the Mauser- style actions.

I've seen a lot of Mausers and have never even heard of one like this. How much did you pay for it?

Zander, A good friend gave it to me. it was his deer rifle for years before he got a new one last year.

OH, if you go to 24hourcampfire.com and go to the forum list under ask the gun writers or search WHAT MODEL MAUSER COULD THIS BE I have a bunch of detailed pictures of my Mauser...... or FRANKENSTEIN as I call it.

In very small letters I found the word BAYARD stamped under the picture of the knight. who or what part of the country made Bayard sporter Mausers?

I think it may be very convenient. You can easily compare prices in different countries and find your dream hunting. Your opinion is highly needed!
