How many things have gone wrong for you and your hunting dogs?
So we finally got my dog Howie back from the hospital, he swallowed part of an antler that we were making into a knife handle. I had been training him to retrieve shed antlers, and well he found the base for this one and instead of bringing it to me, he tried to eat it. And it caused all sorts of problems for him, he had to have it surgically removed. And So has any of your hunting dogs, or just dogs, ever done something like this?

My cousins regular dog swallowed a chicken bone whole twice and the first time it got stuck in its intestines so they brought it for surgery which was rediculosly expensive but the second time it ate another bone but thet one broke in half when the dog was swallowing it and tha caused internal bleeding which would have costed over 8000$ so they put it down.( But some of my cousin would feed the dog table scraps and thats how it got the chicken bones.)
But that dog was mean, it bit me and two of my cousins an it was very vicious so i didn't care too much.
I hope this helps you in some way and i hope Howie is doing ok :)

Yes this looks like my 2 year old yellow lab I have. The bad part was the neighbor hated dogs and put hamburger meat in a sock and put it in his pen in our back yard. So he ate the whole thing the sock got stuck in his intestine and had to have a $1800 dollar surgery. The guy next door girlfriend told me he did it, lets just say we had a interesting conversation that night. Good luck with you pup there, mine is ok now but still paying a vet bill!Todd Quinn
We just lost my best rabbit dog ever. He was only 7. We found a lump in his ear this past march. Had the lump removed and tested, it was cancer. So we had a very radical surgery done to make sure we got all the cancer out. 4 months went by and he was doing great. Plumped up, was playing like a puppy again. Then he just stopped eating, stopped urinating, and just layed around for about a week. I took him back into the vet. we had several different tests done, only to find he now had cancer in his stomach, liver, lungs etc... After a couple thousand dollars of trying to fix my best friend we lost him anyhow 3 weeks ago. Would love to replace him, but not sure about it just yet. Maybe in time.Olivia St. James
Todd I would say do it. Don't waist the time, if you do then you won't want it. We always have at least two dogs. That way when one gets older we get a puppy, he'll keep the pup in line and have some one to play with, and then when the older one passes away, we wait a little while till the pup grows up a bit, then get another pup. And the cycle goes on and on.But yeah Howie's doing okay, he has to have to cone on though, tried to bite away the staples on his stomach. He has to take it slow for a while, but he hopefully will be up and ready soon so I can finish his training in time for shed season.
And Ryan, I have a neighbor just like that, when my uncle moved in he came right over and told him, "I don't like kids and I don't like animals." And my uncle replied, "Well I love my kids, and my animals, and my shotgun. And none of them are leaving here." and he stomped his way back to his house, later that week he shot his 3yr old lab. Oh he was pissed, one of my uncles is the chief of police, another one is one of the state sheriffs. So he called them up, and they took possession of all of this guys guns, and most of them had the numbers rubbed off, and the guy had his own meth lab in there. Oh was he busted big time. Well my uncles do is a lot better now. His name is Mojo, he does sometimes walk with a limp, he shot him in his front right leg, but he does fine. He's 5yrs old now. And the other guy is still in jail.
