This was one of the most wild hunts of my life. I shot this buck on Tuesday of this week. I heard the temperature was dropping so I took the opportunity to get in the stand with hopes the deer would be moving. I walked out to the area my stand was in and got turned around. It took me about 20 minutes to locate it. I will mention the stand was deep in some hardwoods with only a small range to shoot. I put out some estrus, climbed up in the stand and within 5 minutes I had a small 4 point walk right up to me licking his nose. He stood there looking for love for about 10 minutes. Then he walked off and two more small bucks came in to inspect. Two does and a 6 point walked around behind me for about 20 minutes. With all the activity I was having a great time. It was going on about 10:00 and I was getting restless so I decided to get out of the stand and move in the direction all the deer were coming in. Within about 25 yards from my stand I heard crashing and looked over to see two does running at full speed straight towards me. I was fumbling with my gun as if I might need it for self defense. Within 5 feet of me they cut to their right and I saw this buck also at full speed chasing them. He had no clue I was standing right there. It took me a minute to take it all in. I decided to walk in the direction they went and was able to get on a four wheeler path that allowed me to walk without crunching leaves. I stayed low to the ground so I could see under all the tree limbs and then spotted him about 40 yards away rubbing his antlers on a bush. I laid down on the ground and waited for a shot. I took it and down he went. I can honestly say, I would of never gotten this deer if I didn't Keep Calm and Hunt On! I didn't measure him but he had 9 points and a small sticker on the back of his left beam that might count as a 10th point. He's a mature buck and a good size for the area I was hunting in Dublin...
