The Biggest Bobcat I've Ever Seen

This is the biggest bobcat I've ever seen. It's hard to tell if it's even a bobcat but it's got that short bobcat tail. This was on one of my game cameras in South Georgia. Have you seen the new HD game cam by Bushnell? Check it out amzn.to/OrSmFA This is the cheapest one I can find and it ships free. Cabla's has the same one for more.

Others are saying the short tail is a dead giveaway...

Sure it's not a Bobcat?

Mountain lion tail is just angled away from the camera so it appears shorter than it actually is.

It ain't a mountain lion. it hasa light patch at the tip of the tail, which lions don't have. Also, look at the right ear, there's a strip of light colored hair there, just below the black tip. It's a Bobcat

Well.. what is it? And why haven't you guys uploaded you awesome profile pictures yet? Can I help with that?

Clearly a bobcat.Notice the tiff of hair on the pointed ears, the bit of hair hanging down where its "adam's apple" would be at and the short tail. Also on the ears is a small patch of white fur before the black fur on the tips.Mountain lions also don't have fluffy white hair on the tip of their tail right after a black ring around their tail like this cat has.Definately a bobcat.

That is a HUGE bobcat! The ears, pattern of the coat, and the hair tufts on the cheeks give it away.

i am worried about all you guys who think that this is a mountain lion. maybe you shouldn't be in the woods at all lol

Maybe its a bobcat/mountain lion mix. It has the ears and tail of a bobcat and the size of a mountain lion(cougar).

its to small and the tail is actually to large and long to be a canadian lynx i would have to say that looks like a mountain lion to me

It's a close picture which makes it look bigger and it's NOT a mountain lion. Mountain lions tail is almost if not as long as their body to keep balance when chasing game. It's a large bobcat

i'd guess a hybrid if there is such a thing. -sure looks big.

I would say a bobcat, the ears with the white toward the bottom and black tip marks are a give a way along with they are more pointed than a cougars are.

definitely bobcat. just looked at comparison photos and no question. the tail does curl up a little on all bobcat pics I saw, and the mountain lion body would be a lot longer - and the tail is really thick near the base, remaining somewhat thick all the way to the tip. First glance was tricky, as there are no objects in the foreground to size estimate, and colouration is darker like a mtn lion. definitely NOT Lynx, though.

It is a large male bobcat. This is from South Georgia. No mountain lions down there that I know of but I did see a black panther while hunting at a younger age. I watched it through my scope while it crossed a power line. I remember it vividly but get some unassured looks when I tell people I saw a black panther in Dublin Georgia. Years later a couple were captured on a game camera on Georgia and got to go tell everyone, "I told you so."

lol..guys its a bobcat,we got bobcats this size all over the midwest, have seen alot of them in the wild this size before,a mountain lion is ALOT bigger than this, like 2 to 3 times larger and it is not a lynx either no tufts on the ears

i will upload a pic of a lynx and mountain lion to show the differences between the 3 bobcat, lynx and mountain lion,..this is a bobcat have seen them 10 feet away in the wild before this big in the midwest..the pic is also zoomed so it appears bigger ,probably 35 to 40 pound bobcat..

Cougars have fatter tails and much longer.

kristopher wergin

It might be a cross breed of the two because bobcats and cougars can mate and produce offspring
david stillo

david stillo

alright you so called hunters,it is a BOBCAT,lynx have tuft ears, short thicker tails, fur wraps around the face,if a lynx lived in the south it would die pretty fast, thier fur is too thick they are made for northern regions and snowy areas only..a mountain lion has a 3 to 4 foot tail and alot bigger in size, coloring is different too, they would NEVER cross with a bobcat they are territorial animals like the wolves>coyote>fox,,,invade thier territory and they will be having lunch not telling you to bend over,lol...

I live in Denton Texas. I encountered one about the same size the 1st week of August down here. He was in really good shape like the one pictured. The only difference with my encounter is that mine was on property where they are protected (an unfenced preserve).
